...is not a country. So why does it continue to be referred to as some sort of collective state!? Blame the media. Ad campaigns, films, newspapers and broadcasters. They are all guilty. This is UNICEF's latest German ad campaign to raise awareness of the education drought in our beloved "Africa".

Hmm!
Okay, yes there is a lot of poverty in "Africa". It is the least developed continent on the planet. We all know that. [But, only some of us are aware of the fact that Africa doesn't have a capital city but is actually a collective of independent federal republics]. This will remain the case until the media ceases with the misinformed generic statements like the ones in these pictures.
One kid says: "I'm waiting for my last day in school. Children in Africa are waiting for their first one." Another says: "In Africa, kids don't come to school late, they don't go at all."
Are they fucking crazy!? If you didn't notice, these statements [not to mention the pictures] are degrading and offensive. Why!? Because, it is not the case that every child in "Africa" has no access to education. Its is simply the case that a lower proportion of kids in "Africa" have access to it. The media needs to be more informative if you ask me. It needs to refer to specific nations, e.g. Education aid in Mali, or AIDS charities in Botswana. Also, seldom does the media ever report the good things goings ons in "Africa". But then again why should they, its a AIDS ridden land with unedu-macated people. Right!?
Contrary to popular belief, good things do happen in "Africa". There is progress being made. We just don't know about them, because we don't hear about the specifics...
