"Africa"

...is not a country. So why does it continue to be referred to as some sort of collective state!? Blame the media. Ad campaigns, films, newspapers and broadcasters. They are all guilty. This is UNICEF's latest German ad campaign to raise awareness of the education drought in our beloved "Africa".

Hmm!

Okay, yes there is a lot of poverty in "Africa". It is the least developed continent on the planet. We all know that. [But, only some of us are aware of the fact that Africa doesn't have a capital city but is actually a collective of independent federal republics]. This will remain the case until the media ceases with the misinformed generic statements like the ones in these pictures.

One kid says: "I'm waiting for my last day in school. Children in Africa are waiting for their first one." Another says: "In Africa, kids don't come to school late, they don't go at all."

Are they fucking crazy!? If you didn't notice, these statements [not to mention the pictures] are degrading and offensive. Why!? Because, it is not the case that every child in "Africa" has no access to education. Its is simply the case that a lower proportion of kids in "Africa" have access to it. The media needs to be more informative if you ask me. It needs to refer to specific nations, e.g. Education aid in Mali, or AIDS charities in Botswana. Also, seldom does the media ever report the good things goings ons in "Africa". But then again why should they, its a AIDS ridden land with unedu-macated people. Right!?

Contrary to popular belief, good things do happen in "Africa". There is progress being made. We just don't know about them, because we don't hear about the specifics...

Retro Rave

They cant seem to get enough of the whole eighties thang. Well I cant. I don't know what it is but lately this dude has been in some serious retro, nineteen eighty 4our time warp. From the films being watched, to the music to the SLR.
I was watching Less than zero yesterday and was thinking to myself, "Damn they don't make things like they used to." Things nowadays are crisp and touched up. I cant lie we are guilty participants of the glossy after touch mentality too. It's just a minor glitch. Like I said last time, routine becomes boring. So you know we will be flipping the script one of D's days.

Anyway,

I was wrong,

They do make things like back in the good old Sesame Street days. Hence the imminent resurgence of Retro rave. Think "Nu Rave" toned down a couple of notches. Like a chameleon on that ganja green as opposed to Horse. The 80's babies are making a come back and this is reflected in the contemporary music, art and fashion scenes. Music for example, take a look at Justice and
Marvellous Macc Mello. Their raw, distorted and edgy style, not to mention, the complimentary Game Boy music meets Giorgio Moroder are a celebratory "electro- ode" to the Super Ted, Atom Ant and Co generation. On the Art scene there is Kate Moross who is on a level of her own. She is everywhere at the moment. Have a peek at some of her work.

Then there is the re-emergence of late 80's acts. Like Lady Tigra from L'Trimm who is making a scene underground juxtaposed with the arrival of nu rap chic 80's lady Kid Sister. She has been brewing for a while. Zero EIght is going to be her year, TRUST! The Eighties babies are bringing the 80's back. Go Figure!

Mono Tony

Routine is a good thing but routine can eventually become monotonous and we all know that's a baddie. That is why its is important to switch up your style every now and then. I'm not talking just about fashion, I am also talking about the way in which we lead our daily lives. For example, How many of us have the same meal from the same cafe at lunch time everyday!? If you can order your lunch without uttering a word to the dude at the till then you are definitely a Mono Tony.

So,

Today, try and take a leap outside your comfort zone. Switch it up, flip the script. Try something new today, tomozo and on Thursday. Try applying this to every aspect of your life that you feel is somewhat monotonous. Like, engaging in conversation with the person sitting next to you on the bus rather than reading the gossip glossy. I mean, do you really think Paris Hilton gives two poos about what club you went to last weekend!? Go bowling with the crew rather than going for a drink with that chick with the fat booty you have been chasing since November. [ By the way ladies, Fat J Lo asses are in fashion . Yes Madam. Always. That's one monotony I have no intention of changing. HA!]

Anyway,

As i was saying, say YES to a little bit of change. Do something foreign to you. Assorted flavours! Now spot the difference.
