Simple Truths

With the media spotlight firmly on Burma and unusual flow of information from Rangoon. It is impossible not to think about all the crazy extra curricular goings ons in the world that creep by unnoticed and unreported by the media. Jaw dropping occurrences, that escape into reality behind closed doors. Not just "creepy dude next-door" kind of stuff, but intriguing everyday events that seem from a planet far away. These extra terrestrial, activities are actually happening on your doorstep. You just don't know about them because the News doesn't tell you!

That's where Taryn Simon comes into play. Her latest exhibition "An American Index of the Hidden and Unfamiliar" is now on till November the 13th at the The Photographers Gallery in London. Its free! So, go check it out when you get the time. Her latest photographic instalment captures the simple truths in their naked thought provoking form. Its a fresh outlook on the unreported world of America. Think Cryostasis [bringing the dead back to life], selective inbreeding of animals for 'scientific research' , C.I.A Abstract art and Playboy Braille edition. There are a hell of a lot of events and occurrences that are deliberately hidden from the media spotlight. Important issues that we should all be aware of or at least have access to. Taryn Simon's style presents the unreported injustices which occur on a day to day basis without the world knowing. Her unrefined photographic style provides a beautifully raw portrayal of truth. It just goes to show that 'you think you know, but you have no idea'.

Inspiration Information

London Fashion Week [LFW]

7even days of London's annual designer showcase came and went this week. A good way to go if you ask Richard Prior's father who apparently kicked the bucket while laying the pipe. Get Pimp or Die Trying! Ha! Oh Lawd!

Anyway, back to the point. This year the event which had gained the reputation as the 'loveable but spunk-less mongrel underdog' of the international fashion scene was acclaimed by the usually stoic critics. Unlike previous years, this LFW there was no outright champion who stole the show but rather it was a combination of promising and impressive shows all round from start to finish. From the 'new kids on the walk' [Louise Goldin, House Of Holland] to inspirational showcases from home grown talents [Christopher Kane and Marios Schwab] and the old guards [Duro Olowu, Stella McCartney, Luella Bartley and Mattew Williamson]. I am no critic but here are a few of the many pieces that inspired monsieur Dnæ.

House Of Holland [right]

Henry Holland is like the 50 Cent of the fashion industry. You remember how fifty jokingly dissed all the high profile artists on the rap scene at the time of his debut single "How to Rob". It basically got every high profile rapper talking about him in their songs, giving him a lot of free publicity. Well Henry Holland has just flipped 50's marketing strategy to fit his scenario/brand ethos. Put a lot of high profile fashion names on your tees. Complimented with catchy and comical 'rhymes' and bam, your clothes are an instant hit because everybody is talking about you. Clap for Henry he's a clever chap. I hope he isn't a one trick pony though. Although, i would not personally invest in one of their tees, I do like the House of Holland steez. Funky!

Duro Olowu. Nice colours and prints. I was not convinced by a lot of his stuff to be entirely honest, but this garm stood out the most.

Louise Goldin [Left]. I like. I like a lot. Her Nu-Rave, furturistic hybrid look kind of reminds me of the film the Fifth Element. You know there was something haaawt about Mila Jovovich and her extra terrestrial look but you couldn't quite put your finger on it. The same applies here. Clothing wise.

Marios Schwab [Below] gets me on the eccentric, alluring E.T. tip too.

Luella. My favorite from the pack. High waisted shorts. Funky Fresh colours!! I'm a sucker for maaaad colours these days...

Unfortunately there was no colour mix, model wise on the runway during LFW. Don't let me get started on that. I'll flex my feelings later. Even Mr T would have noticed the lack of "colour".

Chicken!

I love Cornel West's hand movements when he talks.
At times he confuses me though.
Im not sure if its the hand movements or what he is talking about that causes the confusion...

You decide.

MTV doesn't care about black people

I love Kanye. Mainly because of the fact that he always speaks his mind. However, after his backstage rant at the MTV Video awards I am starting to see him in a completely different light and its seems all the critics are starting to do so too.

Even though his latest album is doing silly spectacular, the critics are not giving him any space to breathe. I don't blame them. Have a look at this article from village voice.Kanye you got dissed! HARD!! Its is a scathing series of unrelenting verbal backhands at the Louis Vuitton Don. Considering his unprofessional child like behavior at the award show, its a well deserved abusive assault if you ask me. Everything Greg Tate discusses is the truth. It just goes to show you that, no matter how good you may be, its never a good idea to be straight faced arrogant about it. The funny thing is a lot of American kids look up to this sort of behaviour. Hmm!
His head is getting so big he is staring to take some sort of delusional flight into another dimension. Calm down Mr West. I hope this is not the beginning of the end of my love for Kanye. I'm supposed to be seeing him in November...

Stereotypes

That we like.

I have always had some sort attraction to the vagabond, hobo philosophy. I suppose my admiration of the whole vagabond lifestyle is rooted in the fact that the lifestyle closely relates to my personal idea of paradise.

Each person has their own fantastical version of paradise. For most people its riches and a lavish lifestyle, for others (99.9% of the male population) its a room full of ho's.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying I don't like lavish things. Nor would I mind a room full of hotties looking for no stings attached 'sexy time' at no extra cost. Ha! But for me, my idea of utopia is a life stripped of the consumer society and all its capitalist elements.

A simple life!

No television. No mobile phone. No luxuries. No technology full stop. No friggin' bills to pay . A nomadic lifestyle with just the bare necessities. Just me, my wifey, my mini-me(s), nature, stars, good friends, music, some good banter and folklore round a camp fire. The way god intended. Maybe we would even walk around naked. But then again I wouldn't want the other dudes feeling insecure about the size of their ding dongs. Again, It was just the way god intended lads. Ha!

If you have ever seen the film The Blue Lagoon [1980] you will know exactly where I am coming from. I have always loved the idea of a life with no rules and no responsibility. Except the responsibility of Love, Comradery, Food, Sex, Laughter, Sleep, Dancing and the freedom to travel when you want. No visa required. Oh yeah, and some special herbs of course. That is the lifestyle of a vagabond/hobo. These people are worthless in the capitalist sense that they are worth nothing economically but this is what makes them special. For me, this sort of lifestyle is priceless. They enjoy the freedoms we all aspire to. A life without insecurity of the future. A life where everyone is equal. A life without conformism. A life of peace. Call me crazy, but this is just another stereotype I'm diggin'.

Crazy!

Silly Cow

I have been leaving the ladies out. I do apologise for this. So, starting from now I will include the females in the Dnæ Genes fashion talk. I am aware of the fact that women hate it when their dudes tell them what to wear, so the fashion girl talk is just a suggestion of the kinda stuff I would like my imaginary main squeeze to wear.

Behold, the
Reebok Freestyle Anniversary cow print sneaker. I'm still on the look out for UK stores that ladies can pick these up from. For now your only option is from Dr Jays American online store. No worries though, the pound is strong!

So, If you were my lady, personally, I would like to see you in these bebe. No panties. No bra. Yes!! Yes!! I'm a horn dog. We all are. Get over it.

I don't do generalisations but, "I personally believe" you don't need to ask me why we prefer brunettes.
Err. duh! Sozzy Blondies.

Fact

Graduation.
The new Kanyeezy LP. Its been leaked. No surprises there. I'm still going to buy it though. Its an instant classic. His words are pretty deep. You hear a song once and the lyrics stick with you. Especially the anthems 'Everything I am', 'Flashing Lights' and 'I Wonder'. He talks with so much "emphasis".
I'm going to the bookies too.
Sorry "CURTIS".
Hip hop isnt dead. At all.
[These pictures are not recent. They are from December zero six, when my younger bro took me to see him at Shepherds Bush Empire. I will never forget that night...]

He's baaaaaaaaack!!
"Mr P" [one of my major dudes], is back in the building.
Back in the big Schmoke after a lengthy spell in the Big Apple.
Permanently.
Like it should be. Welcome back kiddo.
Happy days are ahead

I met a lady with Koumpouophobia.
Its the fear of buttons. I still don't know how to pronounce it.
She walks around naked all day.
I'm not complaining...
