Life Imitating Art

At the time I first laid eyes on this installation by Troels Carlsen during a short visit to Copenhagen a couple of years back , eyes thought it was just a beautiful concept with no particular importance or meaning. Today, in the face of the global economic turmoil, this installation seems to carry a lot more significance.
The concept represents a society of apes whose culture is in decline. These nine young monkeys are the remnants of a post apocalyptic primate community. Attached to an over sized milk carton in complete child like "innocence", the apes are awaiting the 'new beginning'.
