The Other
I have come to the conclusion that it is becoming increasingly difficult to find any visual information of 'the other' [that is: of African origin] on the internet that falls outside the stereotypical conception. Some may agree with my view, but then again most will disagree. The truth is that, there is so much more to what it means to be 'the other' but we are constantly bombarded with the same regurgitated images/stereotypes of what it means to be of African decent [whether as an African in Africa or being of African descent and living in the West]. This is because most of these perceptions are projected onto our screens from a one dimensional western point of view. Understand that here the term "western" - does not refer to skin colour, or ethnic background but to western perceptions and ways of thinking. In effect, we are both perpetrators as well as victims of this globalised-western point of view.
Only now, after having fully immersed myself in my motherland, can I begin to think outside the box - a box that never really existed. To begin to understand that there is so much more to being an African than we "Westerners" let on. I would be stoooooooopid to assume that this misconceived stereotype only applies to the "African other". This example of "the other" [non westerners] is just the example I am programed to use by default. I don't want to go any deeper, so here are some images of the other, combined/juxtaposed with stereotypes of the other...

Dear Sean Delonas
Dear Sean,
You know how British football fans never shut-up about that one time in 1966 when they beat Germany 4-2 to claim the World Cup on home turf!? Well, us Obama disciples of change will never shutt-tap about the champ either. They think it's all over, but we just getting started. Act like you know.
Yours Sincerely

Almost a year since the single hit the blogs, the video is released. Directed by Ed Banger Art director So-Me (also did D.A.N.C.E and Good Life), it was definitely worth the wait.

Minus & +
I find it extremely frustrating when high ranking 'Afro-Gringo' politicians/activists get irate about racially suggestive material that has been deliberately blasted into the media by insecure and xenophobic 'Hanks'. In other words, deconstructive Americans who are looking to stir shit up. Que the entrance of Sean Delonas - whatever his insinuations, I have to admit I found the cartoon hilarious. This is not the first time that comparisons between Mr O and the chimp have been made - and this most certainly would not be the last.
The second image was a picture cheekily circulated by SKY NEWS during the political race. I saved it to my desktop not only because I could not believe that this sort of 'incog-negro' racial slurring could exist so blatantly on the corporate level but because, I thought it was funny as fAck. If only the Afro-Gringo politicians/activists had the ability to laugh then brush their shoulders off. Causing a furore is only falling into the "chimp" trap. Just let it slide yo! Nawhh wahh mean!?

Kanye X Kid Cudi
I love this video for two reasons. Firstly, even though Kanye has over exposed himself over the last couple of years he still manages to be as innovative as ever, every time - unlike the queen of overexposure, aka Ja Rule in the early noughties. "ITS MURDA" Yes Ja - self-inflicted Murda on your carreer..."HOLLA HOLLA!" Secondly, this video reminds me of a reoccurring dream I used to have as a kid. If things didn't go as planned [in the dream world] I would go back in time by waking myself up. Eye would then go back to sleep, attempting to fix the mishaps in the old dream in the new one... Kids huh?

New Release
Kwes the record producer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter from London has just released his first solo single on Salvia/XL. A-side "Hearts in Home" and B-side "Tissues". The artwork was done by his good friend Sinem Erkas. Each cover is an impression of the syn-aesthetic experience Kwes had with each track, and this will be a reoccurring theme within future collectable releases.
"Hearts in Home is a cold and warm metaphysical pop song, about wanting to spend time with a loved one indoors away from the violent weather outside. Aurally the track is a cohesive mess of some textures and rhythms from a bass guitar, and they are juxtaposed with sounds of the weather and some birds that accompanied him on the roof next to his window. As chaos builds with the weather, drums and delay, the track fades off into a peaceful, warm end with airy de-tuned synthesizers, driving bass guitar, imperfect drums, birdsong and almost whispered utterances."
"Tissues is a short simple song about being a pack of tissues for somebody, or just simply being there for someone. It's a dichotomous track of distortion with bubbling bass and keys, soaring melodica, and panning tissues being the percussive backbone. In comparison to Hearts in Home, there is a lot more space in the mix and this was done to heighten the sense of intimacy, although both tracks are intimate."
Kwes has just finished some reworks for Cibelle, The Invisible, Hot Chip, Portico Quartet, and some extra-cirricular production work for The Cock 'n' Bull Kid, Elan Tamara, The XX, Dels and more. Look out for him in Zer09ines.

D'Banj's latest video release "Suddenly" does not do the song much justice. Although the video is about as original as anything "Made in China" he still gets mad kudos for being one of Nigeria's most original and pioneering musical artists. If you are anti-bling I suggest you just press play and then turn your screen saver ons - But then again, that would mean you would miss out on some first class Nigerian bops.

So If you are of a mixed ethnic background racially or culturally please join the Facebook group here. You can also peep the project blog here.

Pop Toppin'
From Cup Rockin' to Pop Toppin'. Or is it the other way round? Remember the previous post a couple of months back on Andy Uprock - well, Pop Topping is kinda like the big older sister. Innovating recycling at its prime - Pop Topping is the 70's craze of making objects and accessories with the “pull tabs” of aluminum drink cans of and beers. Mans like me are already thinking of knocking up some Pop Toppin' panties and bra combos for the lady come Valentines Day. She already knows of the recession yuh!

WarrioR Words

"I am credited with being one of the hardest workers and perhaps I am, if thought is the equivalent of labour, for I have devoted to it almost all of my waking hours.
But if work is interpreted to be a definite performance in a specified time according to a rigid rule, then I may be the worst of idlers. Every effort under compulsion demands a sacrifice of life-energy. I never paid such a price. On the contrary, I have thrived on my thoughts."

Jasper Goodall : Poster Girl

The new Electric Blue Gallery in the east end of Lahndahn plays host to a collection of new works by the hugely influential graphic artist Jasper Goodall. Entitled 'Poster Girl' the work explores the notion of fantasy versus reality, a subject which has fascinated Goodall for some time. "Sexual attraction, I believe is almost entirely down to our fantasies, after all when you first meet someone you don't know them, but you make up and idea about them in your mind and it's this fantasy that you are attracted to. Once you get to know them, all too often the fantasy doesn't match with the reality, I think it's why such a large proportion of relationships don't really get off the ground!"

DeepeR Than Your Last Breath
"...Become what you so far are not."
Albert Camus riddles the lines of 'The Rebel' with mystical mantras that stick honey sweet to the lovers soul. Although the underlying theme of the authors narrative relates to the understanding of rebellious outlooks and ideals - there is so much one can take from the words within this masterpiece and apply constructively [at the least] to the life of an alien living in our Twenty First Century.
Admittedly there were many a blonde moment when Albert's discourse puzzlingly shimmied over my afro curls, however he compensated for this with a lucid and consistent onslaught of philosophically insightful slogans that will forever resonate within the confines of even a dullard's mind. After reading this book, I can happily say that I am a step closer to understanding the world of which I am [an albeit insignificant] part of. Here are a few favorite quotes from an interplanetarians most recent read.

"Everything is both itself and its opposite, and this contradiction compels it to become something else."

Man Dem
British fashion designer, Joe Casely-Hayford brings forth a new luxury menswear brand under the Casely-Hayford name. “The brand philosophy is based around the idea of what Casely-Hayford calls a ‘darkened aspiration’. Duality is at its core, combining English Heritage with British Anarchy and Savile Row tailoring methods with modern day sportswear. It is the first time in high fashion where both father and son are actively co-working at the creative helm.”

Works of Wow
Willard Wigan was born in Birmingham, England in 1957 and is the creator of the smallest works of art on earth. Some of his works are many times smaller than the full stop at the end of this sentence.
The Wizard of Oz:

His sculpture of the Statue of Liberty in the eye of a tiny sewing needle so impressed the American foundation that they placed it on display inside the real statue — only the fifth time in the great monument's history that an artist has been allowed to exhibit there. Big noise for small art.

Cassius Clay vs Sonny Liston:

And Samson inside a human hair. Staggering - and no way Delilah is going to find a pair of scissors small enough.

The Lilliputians ain't got nothing over this Brummie.
